THE PRESTIGE

I was too burnt from thesis work so I decided to have a break. Earlier today, I went to SM North to check out the new section of the mall, The Block. I have to say that it kinda had the feel of SM Mall of Asia with it. Later that day, I watched The Prestige. A new movie by Christopher Nolan starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale... And wow! It's been a while since I've watched a really good movie! This is so far the best movie that came out this year , with the exception of The Departed, which I have yet to watch due to the 'errr-ness' of my THESIS priorities. Great, great movie overall!

So what's The Prestige all about? Well, it's hard to write a review without giving too much of the plot. Let me just say that its about the rivalry of two magicians, Borden and Angier (played by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, respectively), during the Victorian era in London. The rivalry was kicked off by a tragedy in a show in which Angier's wife was killed because of Borden's malpractice. I'll stop right there. The film show how much hatred and obsession can end up badly, even fatally.

More so than a review, I posted this so that people who get to read my blogsite can get the main idea that they NEED TO WATCH THIS FILM! I swear, this is definitely the best movie I've watched in recent years (did is say that already?). The plot is good (although short of character development in the beginning, as well as some unbelievable things during the course of the movie). The acting is good-- the main stars were intense, as well as the supporting. The directing? Superb! After 'Memento' and 'Batman Returns', I can't imagine director Christopher Nolan can ever make a bad movie! I'm just excited on what he can do on the next Batman movie, 'The Dark Knight'!

And lastly, DON'T FORGET TO WATCH THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And make sure that "You're watching closely".

Borden and Angier (Christian "Batman" Bale and Hugh "Wolverine" Jackman, respectively)
